The other day my unraid server performed a self check on the raid array. There seem to be some SMART errors. Nothing really dangereous or critical, for now.
Still, when you see these kind of errors you want to know what disk is experiencing this error. Ready to replace the disk.
Now, how do you identify this disk in the physical world. Easy. Unraid tells you which device in linux is causing this. Ex /dev/sdb.
Open a unraid console window and just cat the content of the drive to dev null.
Just like this:
cat /dev/sdb > /dev/null
The activity light on the disk will light up until you ctrl-c out of the command. There is your disk
Now go replace that disk.
